STMA Holds Symposium on Innovation of Tobacco Cutting Lines for Chinese-Style Cigarette Production

The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) held a symposium in Longyan City of southeast China's Fujian Province on April 13-15 on major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for the production of Chinese-style cigarettes, summing up achievements made in this endeavor over the past few years, and raising higher requirements for future work of innovation.

In an address delivered at the meeting, Deputy Director Li Deyi of the Economic Operation Department of the STMA said that since the start of implementation of major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for the production of Chinese-style cigarettes in north China's Zhengzhou City in July 2008, manufacturing enterprises of China's tobacco industry, through fulfillment of such projects, have done a great deal in combining technological innovation with equipment innovation, and in combining technological transformation with development of characteristics of brands, making remarkable achievements. Major achievements in this endeavor mainly include full-scale fulfillment of the work of research and development of the main frame of leaf tobacco cutting lines, new breakthrough in the research and development of equipment for cut stem expansion and pelleting, and rapid progress in the work of implementing major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes, which gives prominence to the characteristics of brands, precision processing, intelligent control, and innovation of equipment. Li, in accordance with the policy of promoting cigarette production to a higher level, put forward a package of new and higher requirement for the work of implementing major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes over a future period of time: Firstly, the work of implementing major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes should embody combination between technological transformation and the development and innovation of new varieties of products, combination between technological research and equipment innovation, and combination between the attachment of importance to appearance quality in the process of leaf tobacco cutting and improvement of intrinsic quality; should embody intensification of efforts to promote systematic designing in the process of production and manufacture to a higher level and promote intelligent control and precision processing to a higher level; and should embody realization of new breakthrough in the innovation of key equipment, new breakthrough in the fulfillment of exclusive projects of brands development, and new breakthrough in increasing the value-in-use of leaf tobacco. Secondly, in the research and development of the main frame of leaf tobacco cutting lines, there should be meticulous organization and strengthening of efforts for joint solution of hard technological problems by manufacturers, universities and research institutes, in order to form new resultant forces in innovation and develop innovative main frames. Thirdly, efforts should be made to work out programs for research and development in 2010 in a timely manner, and fulfill all work of research and development stipulated by the relevant programs of action on a full scale. And fourthly, in implementing major exclusive projects of innovation of leaf tobacco cutting lines for producing Chinese-style cigarettes, there should be differentiated guidance and separate formulation of different tasks and targets in accordance with progress in the research and development of leaf tobacco cutting lines for different cigarette brands.
