Regional Company Extends Donation to Drought-Hit Area

Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation - the operator of the tobacco industries in southwest China's Sichuan Province and its neighboring Chongqing City - has extended a donation of 1 million yuan (142,860 U.S. dollars) to Luliang County in the tobacco-producing Yunnan Province in southwest China, which has been hit by a worst drought in a century. On April 8, a ceremony was held at the Luliang Tobacco Subcompany to officially extend the donation to the Luliang County People's Government for exclusive use for fighting the drought in tobacco production in the county. In an address delivered at the ceremony, Deputy General Manager Cui Jianhua of Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation expressed appreciation to Luliang County for its assistance and support to Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation over past years. The worst drought in a century affecting more than 50 million people in southwest China is worrying the entire staff of Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation, Cui said. Since Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation has been in cooperation with Luliang for 18 years, and since it has started the unit construction of a leading raw materials supply base in Luliang, the corporation feels duty-bound to do a bit to support Luliang's efforts for fighting the drought, Cui said.
