Xinjiang Cigarette Factory Extends Donation to Disaster-Hit Area

Xinjiang Cigarette Factory in northwest China's Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region - a tobacco manufacturing enterprise under the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group - extended on March 31 a donation of 1 million yuan (143,000 U.S. dollars) to the Yili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture in the region hit hard by a series of natural disasters since the last winter. Since the winter of 2009, Xinjiang has been experiencing the heaviest snow and coldest temperatures in decades, with the Yili River Valley alone hit hard by 19 natural disasters including snow damages, low temperatures, avalanches and floods from melting snows, which have made 310,000 people homeless, and which have caused serious economic losses. Recently, along with gradual rise of temperatures, Yili prefecture is expected to be hit by ensuing disasters including floods, mudslides and landslides. In efforts to help people in the disaster area overcome hardships, the Communist Party Committee at Xinjiang Cigarette Factory adopted a decision to extend the donation while staff members and workers with the factory all offered contributions.
