British American Tobacco 2009 Profit Up 10 Percent

British American Tobacco PLC said Thursday that its net profit rose 10 percent in 2009 to 2.7 billion pounds ($4.1 billion), boosted by acquisitions and favorable currency movements. Revenue on a reported basis rose 17 percent to 14.2 billion pounds, partly reflecting the impact of acquiring Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni and Tekel in mid-2008 and Bentoel Internasional Investama Tbk in June last year. BAT's four Global Drive Brands achieved volume growth of 4 percent, with Pall Mall leading with a 10 percent gain and Dunhill up 9 percent. BAT shares were down 1.9 percent at 2,188.5 pence on the London Stock Exchange. Enditem
