UVa Head Joins Philip Morris Parent Altria's Board

Cigarette maker Altria Group says outgoing University of Virginia president John T. Casteen III has been elected to the company's board of directors. The Richmond, Va.-based owner of Philip Morris USA, which makes the top-selling Marlboro brand, also said Monday that it increased its board from nine to ten directors. The 66-year-old Casteen is leaving office Aug. 1 after 20 years as the Charlottesville, Va., school's seventh president and will become a president emeritus. Casteen is now a director at Sage Publications Inc., Jefferson Science Associates LLC and the Virginia University Research Partnership Inc. He also belongs to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's board.
