Over recent years, the demand of Chinese tobacco manufacturers for the supply of high-quality imported leaf tobacco has kept growing, and the import of leaf tobacco by them has become increasingly frequent.
The meeting, organized by China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation and sponsored by the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group, was attended by Deputy General Manager Zhang Yuzheng of China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation, Assistant Wang Shaokun to the president of the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group, officials from leaf tobacco importers in all parts of China and representatives of Chinese tobacco manufacturers.
In an address to the meeting, Wang Shaokun said that as a leading user of imported leaf tobacco in China, the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group would take advantage of the opportunity created by the meeting to jointly explore ways of how to improve the inherent quality of leaf tobacco imports with other Chinese tobacco manufacturers, and that the opportunity was a rare one for all tobacco manufacturers in China. He wished the meeting a great success and wished it to achieve the desired targets.
During the meeting, the representatives of leaf tobacco processing enterprises and leaf tobacco importers from all parts of China exchanged experience in determining the quality of imported leaf tobacco, technical requirements for the processing of imported leaf tobacco, etc. They particularly went to the leaf tobacco selection, threshing and redrying workshops at Production Department No. 1 of Kunming Cigarette Factory for a visit, learning about the technologies of flue-cured tobacco processing.
In a separate address, Zhang Yuzheng summed up the results of the meeting, saying that the current meeting is the first of its kind for leaf tobacco importers, processing enterprises and tobacco manufacturing enterprises to profoundly explore ways of how to improve the inherent quality of leaf tobacco imports since the tobacco industry started large-scale use of imported leaf tobacco for cigarette production.
The exchange of opinions at the meeting will contribute to enriching the experience of China's tobacco industry in importing leaf tobacco from abroad, and, at the same time, will serve to provide bases for the tobacco industry to formulate technical standards for importing foreign leaf tobacco, Zhang said.
Zhang expressed the hope that with the current meeting as a start, China National Leaf Tobacco Corporation will be able to annually hold such gatherings, in order to provide guidance and assistance to the work of better regulating leaf tobacco import and effectual operation of the business of leaf tobacco import by Chinese tobacco manufacturers.
