China's First Burley Tobacco Production Line Goes Into Operation

China's first burley tobacco production line smoothly went into operation at Hailin Cigarette Factory in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province in mid-December 2009, as part of a multi-million-yuan (multi-million-U.S. dollar) project of technical transformation and production capacity expansion funded by Heilongjiang Provincial Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. Leaders of Heilongjiang Provincial Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. in charge of the project told Chinese news media that the burley tobacco production line is highly automatic and is controllable on-line, with stable technical parameters, and that its entry into operation has contributed to filling a gap in China in this regard. Presently, the burley tobacco production line is capable of producing 1,000 burley tobacco per hour. After the entry into operation of the production line, Hailin Cigarette Factory will purchase high-quality leaf tobacco and burley nationwide to produce blend-type cigarettes in accordance with orders placed by customers, which will further strengthen the tax-paying capacity of Hailin Cigarette Factory. From 2008 and 2009, Heilongjiang Provincial Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. successively invested a total of 250 million yuan (36 million U.S. dollars) in Hailin Cigarette Factory to start the project of technical transformation and production capacity expansion, which is the largest since the incorporation of Hailin Cigarette Factory 40 years ago, laying a solid foundation for future development of the cigarette factory. So far, more than 50 million yuan (7.2 million U.S. dollars) has been used for the installation of the burley tobacco production line alone, and the remaining part of the investment will mainly be used to import production equipment. Heilongjiang Provincial Tobacco Industry Co., Ltd. has decided to base the production of cigarettes of its exclusive Immense Forests Lucid Ganoderma brand in Hailin City, which is expected to significantly strengthen the tax-paying capacity of Hailin Cigarette Factory as of 2010. Previously, Hailin Cigarette Factory could only produce flue-cured-type cigarettes in an incomplete range of varieties, which objectively limited its capacity to develop markets. It was reported that in the first 11 months of 2009, Hailin Cigarette Factory paid a total of 556 million yuan (78 million U.S. dollars) in taxes. Enditem
