China: Tobacco Company, Manufacturer Sign Pact on Production Base Development Source from: Tobaccochina Online 11/23/2009 The Pu'er City branch of Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Company and Hongta Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province have recently signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in joint development of a high-quality leaf tobacco production base in Pu'er City - a highly favorable tobacco-growing region in Yunnan.
Pu'er City is a region with the largest increment among all newly developed tobacco-growing regions in Yunnan. It is also a national-level priority tobacco-growing area, with natural conditions similar to those of Zimbabwe as the world’s first-rate leaf tobacco producing zone.
Leaf tobacco produced in Pu'er is "fresh, sweet, aromatic, moist, pure, mild and pleasant". Therefore, the development of a high-quality leaf tobacco-producing base and the production of high-quality leaf tobacco in Pu'er have won great support from both the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration and Yunnan Provincial Tobacco Monopoly Administration.
