HongyunHonghe Extends Donation to Quake-Stricken Region

The HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province - the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer - has extended a donation of 1 million yuan (143,000 U.S. dollars) to Binchuan County of Dali Prefecture in Yunnan that was hit by a powerful earthquake on November 2, 2009.

An earthquake measuring five on the Richter scale shook Binchuan and Xiangyun counties in Dali Prefecture at about 5 a.m. early on November 2, injuring 28 people and collapsing more than 1,000 homes. After learning the news, the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group held a joint meeting of top executives and Communist Party officials at the enterprise, deciding to extend a donation of 1 million yuan (143,000 U.S. dollars) to the quake-stricken region, to assist it in tiding over the current difficulties in post-earthquake reconstruction. Speaking at the meeting, Wei Zhigang, secretary of the Communist Party group at HongyunHonghe, said that as a large tobacco manufacturing enterprise in China, HongyunHonghe, always keeping in mind the tenet of "harmony between enterprises and society", actively supports efforts to make remote regions of Yunnan prosperous, enrich the local people, alleviate poverty at designated areas, provide disaster relief, raise funds to help students from poverty-stricken families, help the poor by sponsoring cultural activities, extend support to the disabled, etc, in rendering service to repay the kindness of society.
