The HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province - the largest Chinese tobacco manufacturer - was ranked the 118th among the Top 500 Chinese enterprises for the year 2009, with 47.598 billion yuan (6.8 billion U.S. dollars) in its 2008 annual business income, including 4.952 billion yuan (707 million U.S. dollars) in its annual net profits. The list of Top 500 Chinese enterprises is annually determined on the basis of joint assessment by China Enterprise Confederation and China Enterprise Directors Association. Annual selection of the Top 500 Chinese enterprises is intended to measure the situation of development of large enterprises in China. Catching widespread attention by all walks of life in China, annual selection of the Top 500 Chinese enterprises is also somewhat influential in the world. It was reported that China Petrochemical Corporation, China National Petroleum and the State Grid Corporation of China were ranked at the first three places among the Top 500 Chinese enterprises this time. Reports said that the total business income of the Top 500 Chinese enterprises in 2009 reached a high of 26 trillion yuan (3.71 trillion U.S. dollars), up 19.7 percent year-on-year. For the first time ever, the minimum amount of annual business income for qualification for a place among the Top 500 Chinese enterprises exceeded 10 billion yuan (1.43 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009, up 13.21 percent year-on-year.
