Imperial Shows Leadership in Curbing Tobacco Litter Source from: Tobacco Reporter 08/06/2009 Imperial Tobacco has taken a step towards improving tobacco's image in the UK by adding ButtsOut personal ashtrays to its price list.
Charlie Hamshaw-Thomas, Principal of CSR Solutions and the driving force behind ButtsOut's UK retail launch expressed delight that Imperial was helping to achieve CSR's objective of making ButtsOut available everywhere cigarettes were sold.
And corporate affairs manager, Steve Stotesbury, added Imperial's perspective by saying that while litter was a matter of individual responsibility, Imperial saw personal ashtrays as an important factor in promoting the considerate disposal of cigarette butts.
Not surprisingly, Phil Barton, chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy, also welcomed the news. He said Imperial had shown leadership in raising awareness about littering and by providing alternative ways of disposing of cigarette butts.
And he pointed out that this was particularly important given the additional littering problems that had followed the imposition of smoking bans. Enditem
