Universal Leaf Agronomist Conducts Preliminary Assessment of GAP in Chinese Region

An agronomist for Universal Leaf Tobacco's Asia operations recently traveled to Lichuan City - a high-quality leaf tobacco producing area in central China's Hubei Province - to conduct preliminary assessment of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) there, which was in preparation for an ensuing formal assessment of GAP in the area by Philip Morris. It was reported that over recent years, Lichuan City has been in close cooperation with Philip Morris, and has attached great importance to implementing GAP operating measures and standards in the area. Under the premise of protecting the environment, strengthening agro-industrial security and ensuring sustainable development of agriculture, Lichuan City has managed to promote improvement of the quality of leaf tobacco, and, while producing high-quality farm goods, has managed to maintain and improve soil, water, air as well as fauna and flora situations in the region. Moreover, through implementation of GAP operating measures and standards, Lichuan City has also taken steps to increase income of local farmers, and provide safe working environment for farmers directly engaged in agricultural production in the region.
