China: HongyunHonghe Contributes to Foundation for Awarding University Teachers Source from: Hongyun Honghe Group 07/01/2009 The HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has committed itself to contributing to a newly created foundation for awarding teachers with the Kunming University of Science and Technology, known as the "Hongyun Prize for Teachers", in addition to its annual contribution to the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation" for students with the university since 1999.
On June 19, a ceremony was held at the Kunming University of Science and Technology to take donations extended by the HongyunHonghe Tobacco Group to both the "Hongyun Prize for Teachers" and the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation" jointly established by HongyunHonghe and the Kunming University of Science and Technology.
The dignitaries attending the ceremony included Vice-Chairman Yang Baojian of Yunnan Provincial People's Congress, Deputy Governor Cao Jianfang of Yunnan Province, Vice-Chairman Gu Boping of Yunnan Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, Deputy Inspector Tian Decheng of Yunnan Provincial Educational Administration, President Zhu Shaoming and Deputy Presidents Xu Liwei and Bi Fenglin of HongyunHonghe, President Zhou Rong and Communist Party Committee Secretary He Yulin of the Kunming University of Science and Technology.
In an address to the ceremony, Deputy Inspector Tian Decheng of Yunnan Provincial Educational Administration said that for years, the Hongyun-Hongyun Tobacco Group has always attached importance to supporting the cause of education in Yunnan by extending donations to scholarship foundations and to the construction of university dormitories many times, making great contributions to development of the cause of education in the province.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Deputy President Xu Liwei of HongyunHonghe briefed the participants on the development of HongyunHonghe , and said that HongyunHonghe always takes the support of those who are poor, who are in a dire economic situation and who are weak and the support of the cause of education as an unshirkable responsibility and duty of its own.
After incorporation of the group, HongyunHonghe, besides continuing to make contributions to the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation", decided to commit itself to extending additional contributions to the "Hongyun Prize for Teachers", in hoping that poverty-stricken students will be able to receive aid from society and from HongyunHonghe in the capacity of a State-run enterprise, and in hoping that outstanding university teachers will feel being respected by society and HongyunHonghe in the capacity of a State-run enterprise.
In a separate address to the ceremony, President Zhou Rong of the Kunming University of Science and Technology said that since 1999, the former Honghe Cigarette Factory - a predecessor to HongyunHonghe - had been annually extending 1 million yuan (142,857 U.S. dollars) to the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation". For ten consecutive years, the foundation has benefited nearly 20,000 persons-times of students from poverty-stricken families.
This year, HongyunHonghe has committed itself to contributing to the "Hongyun Prize for Teachers", in addition to its annual contributions to the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation", which well embodies HongyunHonghe's great care and concern about the cause of education, Zhou Rong said. He pledged that the university authorities will well manage both the foundation and the prize, in order that outstanding teachers will be encouraged by the prize and that more and more students from poverty-stricken families will receive aid from the foundation.
At the ceremony, Deputy President Bi Fenglin, on behalf of HongyunHonghe, handed President Zhou Rong of the Kunming University of Science and Technology a check of 1 million yuan (142,857 U.S. dollars) in contributions by the group this year to the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation" and the "Hongyun Prize for Teachers" - 100,000 yuan (14,286 U.S. dollars) for "Hongyun Prize for Teachers" and 900,000 yuan (128,570 U.S. dollars) for the "Honghe Scholarship Foundation".
