China: Provincial Company Plans Significantly Enlarge Cigarette Production Capacity

Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation - the operator of the manufacturing sector of the tobacco industry in south China's Guangdong Province - is planning to significantly enlarge the annual production capacity of its competitive Double Happiness cigarette brand to 3 million cases (150 billion cigarettes) by the year 2013. In an address to a provincial-level meeting on cigarette marketing held on April 13, General Manager Li Genji of Guangdong Provincial China Tobacco Industry Corporation further specified the development target of Double Happiness over the next few years. "If we wish to become a most competitive tobacco manufacturer in China, the Double Happiness must first of all become a national-level competitive cigarette brand, before gradually becoming an internationally competitive cigarette brand," Li said. "By the year 2013, the annual output of the Double Happiness must have reached 3 million cases (150 billion cigarettes), and the Double Happiness needs to have a number of specifications with cigarettes of Grade Two and higher being its leading competitive products," Li told the meeting.
