Sofia-BT Exports Surge

Exports of cigarettes during the first quarter of 2009 by the Bulgarian tobacco company, Sofia-BT, at 610 tons, were increased by 541 per cent on those of the first quarter of 2008, 94 tons, according to a Novinite report. The exports were said to have been made to countries of the Near East and Far East, and to those within the Balkan region; and they were said to have included sales to other EU countries. The value of the company's cigarette exports, meanwhile, rose from BGN1 million to BGN9.5 million. Sofia-BT was said to have produced 746 million cigarettes during the first three months of 2009, compared to 314 million cigarettes during the first quarter of last year. Enditem
