China: Cigarette Aromatization, Moisturization Program Passes Expert Demonstration

A Cigarette Aromatization and Moisturization Program developed under the auspices of the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) recently passed the expert demonstration at a panel discussion held in Zhengzhou City of central China's Henan Province on April 8, with the participation of 13 experts from the tobacco industry and other sectors. The Cigarette Aromatization and Moisturization Program is one of the nine major projects in the Long-Term Scientific-Technological Development Plan of China’s Tobacco Industry. It is rated as an important basis and guarantee for the development of core technologies for producing Chinese-style cigarettes and for the formation of unique characteristics of Chinese-style cigarettes. The program is of great significance to the drive of China's tobacco industry to develop more than 10 large tobacco manufacturing enterprise groups and more than 10 leading competitive cigarette brands, and also to the further strengthening of the comprehensive competitiveness of China's tobacco industry. The Economic Operation Department of the STMA is the authority responsible for leading the development of the Cigarette Aromatization and Moisturization Program. Since June 2007, the Economic Operation Department of the STMA has been in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology of the STMA in organizing Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute and manufacturing enterprises of the tobacco industry to develop the Cigarette Aromatization and Moisturization Program, on the basis of careful preparation, unified planning, accurate determination of problems, specification of targets, comprehensive analysis, scientific structuring, extensive consultation of opinions from all the parties concerned and continued efforts for improvement.
