China: Climate Center Cooperates with Tobacco Company in Providing Meteorological Service

The provincial climate center in southwest China's tobacco-producing Yunnan Province has recently signed an agreement of cooperation with the Yunnan provincial brand of China National Tobacco Corporation in providing meteorological service for tobacco-growing zones across the province. It was the fifth consecutive year in which the provincial climate center signed an agreement of cooperation with the provincial tobacco company in the provision of meteorological service for tobacco-growing zones in Yunnan. According to the agreement signed for 2009, the provincial climate center will provide the provincial tobacco company with real-time and pertinent service of forecast of disastrous weather conditions and early warning about abrupt changes in weather conditions, medium- and short-term weather forecast in Yunnan, proposal for the adoption of countermeasures in production, assessment of climate impacts in tobacco-growing zones, etc. The provincial climate center will regularly supply both the leaders of the provincial tobacco company and technicians with tobacco production departments with the service of early warning about disastrous weather conditions and assessment of impacts of climate conditions on tobacco production through cellphone notes, and by phone or fax.
