Provincial Tobacco Industry Generates More Taxes, Profits Source from: Tobacco China Online 02/02/2009 The commercial sector of the tobacco industry of east China's Jiangsu Province sold 127.3 billion cigarettes (2.546 million cases) in 2008, generating 12.366 billion yuan (1.77 billion U.S. dollars) in taxes and profits, up 11.2 percent year-on-year, with the amount of profits alone reaching 10.28 billion yuan (1.467 billion U.S. dollars), up 13.49 percent year-on-year.
In response to the global financial crisis, the tobacco monopoly administrative authorities of Jiangsu strengthened supervision and control over the tobacco market, and managed to guarantee smooth operation of the tobacco market by better regulating the market order.
By means of regulation over the market and application of a correct policy on developing competitive cigarette brands, the provincial tobacco industry succeeded in maintaining steady promotion of the economic efficiency under a harsh market environment stemming from the global financial crisis.
