KT&G Sued for Cigarette Fires

Jan 15, 2009-Provincial authorities have filed a lawsuit against South Korea's KT&G Corp over cigarette-related fires they say could have prevented had the company sold a safer product it reserves for exports, reports The Korea Herald. Gyeonggi Province is demanding KRW1 billion ($738,000) from KT&G for fires that broke out between 2005 and 2007. The provincial government claims cigarette-related fires cost it some KRW4 billion during those two years. KT&G sells its self-extinguishing cigarettes in parts of the U.S. and Canada, where they are legally required. Enditem
