JT to Dissolve Australian Foods Subsidiary

Japan Tobacco Inc is to dissolve its Hans Group subsidiary, the Australian chilled processed foods group that includes Hans Continental Smallgoods, Swicker's Kingaroy Bacon Factory, and Sun Pork Foods. JT said today that because of their product characteristics and geographical locations, the Australian companies no longer offered synergies with its other food operations. JT will now focus its foods business on Katokichi, its wholly-owned foods subsidiary in Japan. The disposal of the Hans Group, which will be conducted under Australia's 'Voluntary Administration' law, is expected to take about a year. Enditem
