Shanghai Cigarette Factory invests heavily in technical transformation

Shanghai Cigarette Factory - the manufacturer of the time-honored Chunghwa cigarette brand - will invest 5 billion yuan (710 million U.S. dollars) in a project of technical transformation of its production line for making Chunghwa brand cigarettes. On November 26, 2008, a grand ceremony was held in Shanghai City to inaugurate the project of technical transformation, which covers a total area of 91.79 mu (6 hectares). When the project of technical transformation is completed, Shanghai Cigarette Factory will become capable of generating 50 billion yuan (7.1 billion U.S. dollars) in annual taxes and profits, and create 500 new jobs for applicants with an educational background at the junior college level or higher.
