The 2008 version of what is termed the world's most exclusive snus, Kardus Superior Blend, includes air-dried tobacco from Hungary, sun-dried Kurnool tobacco from India and a Highlands single malt whisky. In a press note posted on Swedish Match's website, tobacco master, Tommy Willskytt, was quoted as saying that it had often been mentioned during testing sessions that Kardus' tobacco mixture had a flavor note similar to that of a very high quality single malt whisky; so it was decided to make this flavor stronger. The whisky is added to tobacco that has been stored for four years and that, unlike the tobacco in traditional loose snus, is cut rather than ground. Cutting is said to enhance the aromas and better retain the 'shape' of the snus under the lip. Willskytt said Kardus, which is produced as a limited edition product, was unchallenged as the most exclusive snus in the world. It offered a taste sensation that combined the spicy tropics with the barren, windswept Scottish moors. The flavors merged, grew and then took you on a journey of taste exploration, he added. The Kardus manufacturing process takes place in eight stages: cultivation, curing, gradation, refinement, selection, cutting, preparation and storing. "Each stage is performed by hand …, said Mikael Arnebert, director of media relations & PR, North Europe. "No machinery in the world can replace the skilled hand or sensitive nose. "This is a snus for special occasions. A snus that should be enjoyed in peace and quiet, perhaps after a splendid meal." According to Arnebert, Kardus combines first-class craftsmanship in terms of flavor, design and material. And it is supplied in hand-made, polished oak boxes that were designed by cabinet-maker, Ulf Mellstr?m, who trained at the Carl Malmsten Center for Wood Technology and Design. Kardus will be sold by six carefully selected tobacco specialists in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malm? and Uppsala. The retailers will set the price of the 100 g products, but the recommended retail price is SEK450. Enditem
