Thai Monopoly Struggling to Attract Factory Tenders

The Thailand Tobacco Monopoly (TTM) may have to make its contract terms more flexible if it is to attract any interest from developers in building its proposed new cigarette factory, according to a Bangkok Post report. TTM managing director, Prachuab Tantinon, said changes would likely be made after two previous calls for tenders failed to attract any interest. The state enterprise has been planning for years to shift production out of Bangkok to a site in central Thailand and the cabinet has approved Baht16.2 billion to pay for the cost of land acquisition, construction and machinery procurement.
