End of Season Surveying to Begin

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), a division of the US department of Agriculture, is preparing to contact growers to gather information for the 2008 final year-end production report for all crops. The survey serves as the basis for USDA official estimates of production and harvested acres for all major agricultural crops in the United States. While statistics for tobacco has stopped since the buyout went into effect in 2004, NASS still reports estimated yield and acres harvested for flue-cured, burley and dark varieties. NASS will contact all growers in the first two weeks of December by mail or telephone and ask them to provide information on 2008 production and on-farm stocks. The report is to be released on January 12, 2009. Any information provided will be treated as confidential. Reports are available on the NASS Website: www.nass.usda.gov. Enditem
