Altria Cutting Jobs

The Altria Group has started to cut jobs because of the current economic turmoil, according to a report yesterday by Vinnee Tong for Associated Press. Tong reported that the number of cuts had not been disclosed but that the people in departments affected had been informed that there would be layoffs. The latest cuts, first reported in the Richmond Times-Dispatch, are in addition to layoffs announced in August 2007 when Altria said that it would cut as many as 400 positions when it moved its headquarters out of New York and spun off Philip Morris International.
