Five Arrested, One Charged, in £100,000 Tobacco Case Source from: Panorama.gi 11/12/2008 Investigations into the theft of 380 boxes of different brands of cigarettes from a container at North Mole have developed with the arrests, by CID detectives, of five men. This investigation is being run parallel with the serious assault on a security guard who remains critical but stable in a Cadiz hospital.
"The white van, which was suspected to be linked with the incident, has been found at a location on the East side of the Rock and forensic examinations are being conducted. The van was laden with a large amount of boxes of tobacco," said the Police.
A man of Med Hotel, Eastern Beach, who was arrested on Friday morning, has been charged with one count of theft of 380 boxes of tobacco and appeared before the Magistrates Court yesterday where he was granted bail in the sum of £5,000 in his own recognisance with a £5,000 cash deposit and the surrender of his travel documents. His case has been adjourned till the 17th December 2008.
The other four men who were arrested during the course of 7th and 8th of November, have been granted Police Bail to surrender at New Mole House Police HQ on 12th December 2008.
The stolen tobacco of is valued at approximately £100,000. Enditem
