Charges Laid Over 584.6 Kilograms of Tobacco in Car

A 24-year-old Akwesasne woman has been charged with possession of illegal tobacco products after 45 garbage bags filled with 584.6 kilograms of fine cut tobacco were found in her vehicle on Saturday. The woman's car was stopped by Cornwall RCMP officers on County Road 18, near Apple Hill. Officers seized the tobacco and the vehicle. The contraband tobacco is believed to have been manufactured in the United States and smuggled into Canada. The woman is to appear in court in Alexandria on Nov. 5. Enditem
