Farm Worker Stabbed with Tobacco Knife Source from: courierpress.com By Len Wells September 17, 2008 09/18/2008 A Burnt Prairie, Ill., farm worker was injured seriously this week when a fellow worker allegedly attacked him with a tobacco knife.
Bernadino Gaspar, 23, had deep lacerations to his left hand, right forearm and a gash on his chest after the Monday afternoon incident, White County Sheriff's Department officials reported.
Gaspar initially was treated at Fairfield Memorial Hospital and later was transferred to an undisclosed Evansville hospital for additional treatment. No further details on his condition were available late Tuesday.
According to sheriff's deputies, a bleeding Gaspar had sought help at a White County home. When deputies went to the place where he said he was attacked, they found a second injured man, Agelando Lopez, 21, also of Burnt Prairie. Lopez, who had a cut on the right side of his head, also was treated at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
The men were part of a crew hired by a White County farmer to do tobacco work. They reportedly had Monday afternoon off, and deputies said the men had been drinking before the incident.
Lopez was being held at the White County Jail in Carmi on Tuesday on a preliminary charge of aggravated battery. Bail information was not available. Enditem
