New Jersey Cigar Club Loses Liquor License, Appeals

The Red Bank, New Jersey, Borough Council has decided not to renew Ashes Cigar Club Steakhouse and Seafood Raw Bar's liquor license, but the club has filed an appeal with the state's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. Ashes Cigar Club is one of the few restaurants in New Jersey that still allow patrons to smoke while dining and drinking. Three council members voted against the renewal, two council members voted in favor and one member abstained. Ashes Cigar Club has received several citations in the past. On February 2, Red Bank safety inspectors closed Ashes early because of overcrowding. The ABC is reviewing the appeal that the agency received on August 28. Red Bank borough attorney Kenneth Pringle told RedBankGreen.com, "It would take an extraordinary reason for the ABC not to renew." Enditem
