Indonesia Shuts 1,500 Cigarette Factories

The Indonesian government has shut down at least 1,500 cigarette factories since the beginning of this year, according to local reports. The director general of Customs and Excise, Anwar Suprijadi, said the closures had been made in an attempt to help the government achieve its projected cigarette excise revenue of Rp46.5 trillion. "There are many reasons to shut down the cigarette factories, ranging from the absence of official permits, abuse of excise tapes to the illegal sales of cigarettes," he said on Wednesday. Enditem
