Businesses Fail Tobacco Compliance Checks

Seven businesses in Grand Island and Hall County failed tobacco compliance checks done on Aug. 1. The Hall County Sheriff's Department, Grand Island Police Department, and the Nebraska State Patrol conducted unannounced compliance checks on tobacco retailers in Grand Island and Hall County to determine the rate of tobacco license compliance. Law enforcement officers teamed up with people under age 18 to complete the enforcement activity. Seventy-eight area tobacco retailers were checked and 71 businesses were in compliance. Seven retailers sold tobacco products and the clerks at these businesses were cited for selling tobacco products to a minor. Businesses that failed the checks were Ampride, 3210 W. Old Potash Highway; Gas Island, 2012 N. Webb Road; Get and Split, 3320 Langenheder; the Pump & Pantry stores at 3507 E. Bismark Road and 821 S. Webb Road; Pumpers 1904 Diers Ave.; and the Travel Center of America in Alda. Funding for the enforcement was provided by the Drug Free Community Support grant. Enditem
