PMI's Rothmans Acquisition Clears Competition Hurdle

Philip Morris International has received an advance ruling certificate (ARC) from the Canadian Commissioner of Competition in connection with the company's proposed acquisition of Rothmans Inc. The issuance of the ARC satisfies one of the conditions of the company's August 7 offer that clearance is obtained under the Competition Act (Canada). The company's offer to acquire Rothmans is open for acceptance until midnight (Vancouver time) on September 11, unless extended or withdrawn by the company.
