Finland May Forgo Tax Increase on Tobacco, Taloussanomat Says Source from: By Kati Pohjanpalo Aug. 11 (Bloomberg) 08/14/2008 Finland may abstain from a proposed tax increase on tobacco as inflation accelerates, business news Web site Taloussanomat reported, citing financial secretary Petri Malinen at the Ministry of Finance.
An increase to the current tax rate of 57 percent on tobacco was proposed by a committee at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health this spring, Taloussanomat said. A box of 20 cigarettes now costs about 4 euros, the Helsinki-based Web site said.
