EU to Have RIP Products by 2010 Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Aug 6, 2008 08/07/2008 From 2010, cigarettes sold in the EU will have to comply with reduced ignition propensity requirements currently being drawn up, according to a number of reports yesterday quoting the European Commission.
Most of these reports used the term 'fire safe' cigarettes, either with or without inverted commas, a term that is misleading.
Although fire safe is not a term the tobacco industry uses, it will no doubt be blamed for misleading the public when these products are found not to be fire safe.
The industry seems to be being set up for a rerun of the controversy over machine-determined tar levels in cigarettes. Enditem
