Namibia: HAN Training Courses in August

The Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN) will next month host two open days for restaurant owners and managers and a two-week training course for Grade 10 school leavers. HAN President Gitta Paetzold says the events will look at issues such as the envisaged Namibia Tobacco Products Control Act and its implications, the new Labour Act, standards in service delivery and the recycling of waste and re-use of commodities. The first open day for restaurant owners and managers will be held on August 13 at the Cattle Baron Restaurant in Windhoek's Maerua Mall , starting at 14h30. The second will be held at Hotel Schweizerhaus/Cafe Anton at Swakopmund on August 13 starting at 14h30. The training for Grade 10 school leavers will be held from August 19 to 29, with 10 full days of training offered to 30 selected, currently unemployed trainees. "The hospitality industry in Namibia holds major potential for job creation for Namibian people and more importantly, such jobs are available not only for highly skilled, specialised and qualified people, but also to young people without a tertiary education," said Paetzold. Through the assistance of T&T Hospitality Training, managed by hotelier Tom Mutavdzic and chef Terry Jenkins, the HAN training course will be on basic kitchen skills, waitressing and restaurant service. The course fee is N$200 and the bulk of the costs will be funded by HAN. The deadline for applications is August 7 while notification of finalists will be done on August 8. Interviews with the finalists are on August 11. Enditem
