Bomb Squad Investigates Device Outside Federal Courthouse

The police department bomb squad and agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were called to the federal courthouse Monday night after two suspicious canisters were found outside. Police blocked off Jefferson Boulevard between Michigan and Main while officers investigated. A federal judge also ordered employees in the federal courthouse to evacuate. They X-rayed the canisters and determined they were empty. Once they were retrieved officers determined they were Freon canisters, used to store the refrigerant used in air conditioners. Investigators will be reviewing security cameras to see if the container was left behind by construction crews working in the area earlier in the day. Enditem
