Navajo Council to Meet for Summer Session Source from: 07/20/2008 WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. By: The Associated Press 07/21/2008 The Navajo Nation Council's summer session starts monday.
Delegates will consider a ban on commercial tobacco and $13 million in spending proposals.
The proposed tobacco ban would prohibit smoking cigarettes and chewing tobacco in public buildings and shared public air space, such as fairs or rodeos.
Tobacco used in ceremonies for traditional or religious purposes would be excluded from the ban.
The council can't fund all of the $13 million it is proposing spending. Tribal Controller Mark Grant says more than $9 million are available in the fund that delegates draw from for supplemental appropriations.
The spending measures include about $6 million for capital improvement projects and more than 2 million dollars to build a new elections building. Enditem
