Imports of Food Products, Beverages And Tobacco on the Rise Source from: economie.moldova.org 08 July 2008 07/09/2008 Moldova over the first five months of this year imported goods to the value of US$1.890 billion, an increase of 45% compared with the corresponding period last year. Imports this May totaled US$395.8 million.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the imports of food products, beverages and tobacco in the first five months of 2008 came to US$128.8 million, 1.7-times more than a year before. They made up 6.7% of the total imports.
The imports of mineral products rose 47%, of machines and electrical appliances 54%, of textiles and articles from these 16.5%, of building materials such as cement, plaster and stone 44%.
Imports from the EU member states in this period added up to US$841.9 million, an increase of 41% compared with January-May 2007. They made up 45% of the total imports.
Imports from the CIS countries totaled US$669.7 million or by 37% more, making up 35.4% of the total imports. Enditem
