Fortune Tobacco Heist Suspect Identified

One of the 15 robbers who took the vault of Fortune Tobacco containing P4 million during last Sunday's robbery has been identified, the police said yesterday. Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Superintendent Leon Nilo de la Cruz said the robbery at the Zebra Holdings Inc., a subsidiary firm of Fortune Tobacco was pulled off by the same people who robbed a beverage firm in Novaliches, Quezon City last April. De la Cruz said employees of the firm identified one of the suspects while reviewing the tape of the surveillance camera that recorded the robbery in Quezon City. However, the EPD director did not divulge the identity of the identified suspects for fear of jeopardizing ongoing follow-up operations to arrest him and his companions. While typhoon Frank was battering Metro Manila last Sunday, the 15 robbers barged into the warehouse after disarming its six security guards. The robbers destroyed the cement wall of the main office to free the vault. De la Cruz said somebody provided the robbers with inside information since they knew where the money was kept. Enditem
