County to City: Tobacco Sales to Youths Nonexistent Source from: Mariecar Mendoza • The Desert Sun • June 19, 2008 06/20/2008 The Riverside County Community Health Agency Department of Public Health notified Desert Hot Springs last month that the city's tobacco sales to minors' rates have dropped to zero.
City officials announced the news to residents at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
In a letter to the city, the agency congratulated the city, stating it "has achieved what few other cities can claim."
The facts are based on the agency's sting operation April 18 at 13 Desert Hot Springs tobacco retailer locations.
Desert Hot Springs previously had a tobacco sales to minors rate that fluctuated between 27 percent and 42 percent, according to the agency. Enditem
