Thailand to Adjust Excise Base Rates Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Jun 9, 2008 06/10/2008 Thailand's Excise Department is planning to reduce base valuation prices used for calculating taxes on cigarettes following complaints from cigarette importers of unfair treatment, according to a Bangkok Post report.
Importers have complained that the excise tax on cigarettes produced by the Thailand Tobacco Monopoly has been based on ex-factory prices whereas the excise on imported cigarettes has been based on a department-determined maximum retail price.
The maximum retail price, which is used also as a base for calculating value-added taxes, is often higher than the retail price of cigarettes. Enditem
