STMA Accredits Technology Center of Regional Company

The State Tobacco Monopoly Administration (STMA) - the regulator of China's tobacco industry - issued a notice on May 26 to accredit the technology center of Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation in southwest China's Sichuan Province and its neighboring Chongqing City as a technology center at the level of China's tobacco industry. The accreditation was granted on the basis of deliberation and approval by the STMA in accordance with the Measures for Recognizing and Evaluating Technology Centers with the Tobacco Industry. The technology center of Sichuan-Chongqing Regional China Tobacco Industry Corporation was established in July 2006, on the basis of merger of the technology centers of the former Chengdu Cigarette Factory, Chongqing Tobacco Industry Company and Shifang Cigarette Factory. It groups together more than 80 senior professionals including supervisors of doctoral students, researchers holding the master's degrees and members of the national panel for the appraisal of cigarette products who are in the fields of tobacco engineering, industrial analysis, chemical analysis, quality and technology research and management, flavors and fragrances research, information management, etc., in an enriched and rational structure of human resources. The technology center boasts more than 30 apparatuses and sets of equipment for scientific-technological research valued at more than 50 million yuan (7.1 million U.S. dollars), which are capable of meeting requirements for digitalized designing of blending formulas, research of technologies with unique characteristics and analysis of cigarette smoke, and also requirements for solving hard technical problems in research projects. It was reported that since its establishment, the technology center has fulfilled dozens of research projects for the tobacco industry and local enterprises. It is in possession of 42 patents awarded in China. In particular, many of its research achievements, including the composite biochemical harm-reducing technology, have been extensively applied in the research and development and production of new products, winning high comments and favorable appraisal.
