Tobacco-free 'Snus' Under Investigation

Swedish Match (SM) said on Tuesday it was investigating whether its tobacco-free 'snus', Onico, might cause tooth cavities, according to a Reuters report. Freddi Lewin, SM's health advisor, said the company had been contacted by two dentists in the past month saying patients using the product had developed cavities, and also by consumers with similar concerns. Launched in 2006, Onico is said to be based on corn fiber. A company spokesperson was quoted as saying that SM sold about 500,000 cans of Onico a month, compared with about 15 million cans of regular snus. Enditem
