Cigarette Factory Invests Heavily in Technical Transformation Source from: cnr.cn 03/19/2008 Honghe Group's Xinjiang Cigarette Factory in northwest China's Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region is planning to invest 100 million yuan (14 million U.S. dollars) in technical transformation chiefly intended to enlarge its annual cigarette production capacity to 400,000 cases (20 billion cigarettes), better control pollution and strengthen the management of weak points in the production process, with an initial target of raising the effective operating rate of its production equipment by 0.5 percent in 2008.
The plan was unveiled by Xinjiang Cigarette Factory's director Zhang Shushan at a meeting of representatives of workers and staff members of the factory held recently.
As far as pollution control is concerned, Xinjiang Cigarette Factory has made continued efforts to conduct technical transformation of its production facilities over recent years, achieving great successes in conserving energy and reducing the discharge of wastes.
According to reports on environmental monitoring by the local environmental protection authorities, Xinjiang Cigarette Factory met the relevant technical standards of the State governing the discharge of solid, fluid and gaseous wastes in 2007.
As a result, the State Tobacco Monopoly Administration, the State Environmental Protection Administration and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization jointly awarded Xinjiang Cigarette Factory a prize for its outstanding contribution in phasing out the use of isceon in implementation of the Vienna Convention on the Protection of Ozone Layer on the part of China's tobacco industry.
