Spit Tobacco Target of Montana Prevention Campaign

There will be a major push this week to reduce the use of spit tobacco around the state. Currently Montana rates among the highest in nation in spit tobacco use, with 12% of Montana men reportedly chewing -- a rate twice the national average. The campaign is organized by the Montana Tobacco Use Prevention Program, and is designed to create an awareness of the dangers of using spit tobacco. A number of local businesses in the Bozeman area are pitching in, by asking tobacco users to throw away their cans inside their stores. Montana Tech Head Football coach Bob Green, and some of his players, are among those helping folks kick the habit. "We're going to collect cans of chew, so will have a big box, so any player, anybody that knows us, can come in there and dump their can of chew off and quit." You can also take advantage of a toll free hotline, by calling 1-800-QUIT-NOW. Enditem
