Imperial Canada to Extend Snus Test

Imperial Tobacco Canada says that Ottawa will be the focus of its next snus test market, which will begin in 'late January', according to a CNW Telbec report. Imperial launched its first snus test market in Edmonton in September 2007. "The health risks associated with smoking tobacco products are well understood, the prices are high and restrictions are strict, yet about five million adults in Canada smoke," said president and CEO, Benjamin Kemball, in announcing the site of the new test market. "Imperial Tobacco Canada believes that it is the right thing to provide people products that are potentially less harmful than smoking." Imperial said its Ottawa test marketing would be designed to assess consumer acceptance of snus, and also to monitor its use so as to be able to compare it with the Swedish experience. It will offer its findings to Health Canada, which, along with other organizations, it is hoping to work with to look at an appropriate regulatory framework for snus. Enditem
