General Tobacco Completes Move to Mayodan From Staff Reports

General Tobacco has completed its move from Miami to Mayodan, the company said Wednesday. The sixth-largest tobacco company in the nation, General Tobacco now has its corporate headquarters here, including cigarette manufacturing and warehousing. The company, with $300 million in annual sales, will be eligible for a combined tax rebate of $3 million from Rockingham County and Mayodan if it meets certain employment targets. General Tobacco said in June of 2007 that it could create 200 jobs and invest $55 million in buildings and equipment. In its news release Wednesday, the company said that it has also made a $25 million payment to the Master Settlement Agreement, the multi-state agreement by tobacco companies setting forth strict guidelines for tobacco marketing and advertising.
