Indian Cigarette Sellers Kidnapped, Assaulted Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Jan 9, 2008 01/10/2008 Three women who were running betel nut and cigarette kiosks in India were kidnapped on Sunday, assaulted and forced to attend a meeting at which representatives of the press were present, according to a hindu.com report.
The perpetrators were apparently members of the proscribed organization, the Revolutionary People's Front, which is opposed to the sale of tobacco products and betel leaves.
The report said that the three women had been barred from opening their kiosks for two months.
This is not the first time that women have been treated in this way by what the report described as 'militants', who had even shot dead wholesale and retail traders, the Hindu added.
Police were said not to intervene in the 'parading of business people'. Enditem
