Beijing Factory Lifts Cigarette Exports Source from: tr.itsmyiq.com Jan 9, 2008 01/10/2008 The Beijing Cigarette Factory last year exported 1.112 billion cigarettes, 12.2 per cent more than in 2006, according to a Tobacco China Online report. Cigarette export earnings during 2007, at $12.9003 million, were up by 14.7 per cent.
Nearly all (more than 99.9 per cent) of the factory's exports comprised the Zhongnanhai (South Central Lake) brand, which is a blended cigarette rather than a Virginia product.
The factory, which is a subsidiary of the Shanghai Tobacco Group, attributed its export growth partly to increased levels of co-operation with an unnamed Japanese trading company that had helped strengthen after-sales service on Japanese markets and minimized the impact on Chinese exports that had been sparked by a food safety crisis. The factory had taken steps, too, to promote duty-free sales at Chinese exit points and had been more effective in its promotional activities, something that had helped drive sales in Malaysia 'remarkably'.
Exports are taken to include sales to markets such as those in Macao. Enditem
