New York City Gets Good Schools Report

New York City has reduced high school smoking by more than half during the past six years, according to data made public yesterday and reported by PRNewswire. High school smoking fell from 17.6 per cent in 2001 to 8.5 per cent last year. New York City's high school smoking rate is nearly two-thirds lower than the most recently available national rate of 23 per cent, which relates to 2005. And it is lower than any reported state high school smoking rate except for Utah's 7.4 per cent of 2005. New York City's adult smoking rate of 17.5 per cent in 2006 was also significantly lower than the national rate of 20.8 per cent. Enditem
